Buenos Aires geotourism: the city against the river.

Buenos Aires is a city full of stories to tell; discovering our city and its history is something you cannot miss when you come, but the natural history of Buenos Aires is something that remains hidden behind streets, buildings, and monuments. What was the city like in 1536 when Pedro de Mendoza founded Buenos Aires? Where was the riverbank? Together, we will uncover the secrets of Plaza de Mayo, discovering the history of buildings like the Cabildo or the Casa Rosada. Why are they inclined? Why was the Taylor Customs House built behind the Casa Rosada? What led to the second founding of Buenos Aires?

We will also delve into the history of Buenos Aires ports, from La Boca to Puerto Madero and the current Puerto Nuevo. We will uncover the secrets of the city's debris and its strange relationship with the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve. In the end, the geological history of Buenos Aires is intimately related to its origin and growth, a city against the river.

About me

My name is Juan Manuel, I am a Doctor in Geology specialized in geological hazards and volcanism. For the past 12 years, I have been working as a scientific researcher and as a lecturer at the University of Buenos Aires.

I have always had a great passion for teaching and for showing new things to people interested in the natural sciences. As a geologist, I have had the opportunity to travel and deeply explore almost all of Argentina, and I know hidden secrets in landscapes and rocks.

I was born and raised in the city of Buenos Aires, a native "porteño" who dedicated his life to studying nature in a city where nature seems to be absent. But it does exist; you just have to know where to look for it.
